{"id":138075,"date":"2016-02-01T11:48:21","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T16:48:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/capitalsportsnc.com\/?p=138075"},"modified":"2016-10-06T13:55:12","modified_gmt":"2016-10-06T17:55:12","slug":"capitalsportsnc-articles-on-roy-williams-wins-national-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/capitalsportsnc.com\/?p=138075","title":{"rendered":"CapitalSportsNC articles on Roy Williams win national award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Clifton Barnes, the owner of CapitalSportsNC.com, has won a national award for writing.<\/p>\n<p>A series of columns on issues surrounding University of North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams won an Award of Excellence from the DC area-based Communications Concepts through its 2015 Awards for Publication Excellence competition.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_138082\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-138082\" style=\"width: 125px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/capitalsportsnc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CliftonBarnes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/capitalsportsnc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/CliftonBarnes.jpg\" alt=\"Barnes\" width=\"125\" height=\"160\" class=\"size-full wp-image-138082\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-138082\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Barnes<\/figcaption><\/figure>Barnes, a native of Rocky Mount who has lived in Cary since 1996, is a UNC-Chapel Hill journalism and political science grad.<\/p>\n<p>The columns, which appeared here on CapitalSportsNC.com, address Williams&#8217; role or lack thereof in the academic scandal at UNC, his official support of the Affordable Healthcare Act and his intentions to coach UNC for six to 10 more years.<\/p>\n<p>Judges were impressed with how Barnes delved into the issues in ways that other writers have not and how he wasn&#8217;t afraid to be politically incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>John De Lellis of Communications Concepts says competition was intense as there were nearly 2,000 entries with 12 winners in the column-writing category. Barnes was the only winner from North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>CapitalSportsNC.com has now won awards three years in a row. Bar Association from 1987 to 2002 and, before that, was a newspaper writer and editor. He also worked part-time for McClatchy on numerous community newspaper websites.<\/p>\n<p>Today he is a freelance writer, editor and Web developer who owns several websites including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cb3media.com\/\">cb3media.com<\/a>. He is currently writing a book on the University of North Carolina&#8217;s Order of the Bell Tower.
