{"id":2049,"date":"2011-09-03T22:22:58","date_gmt":"2011-09-04T02:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/capitalsports.us\/?p=2049"},"modified":"2012-02-13T23:19:44","modified_gmt":"2012-02-14T04:19:44","slug":"tar-heels-cut-by-panthers-redskins-but-garners-banks-makes-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/capitalsportsnc.com\/?p=2049","title":{"rendered":"Tar Heels cut by Panthers, Redskins but Garner&#8217;s Banks makes it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former UNC cornerback Kendric Burney was cut by the Carolina Panthers while former UNC runningback Shaun Draughn was cut by the Washington Redskins as teams get their rosters down to 53.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon Banks of Garner did, however, make the Redskins\u2019 roster after a 95-yard punt return in the final preseason game Thursday. Speculation was that Banks might get cut because of a rule change that helps kickers boot it through the end zone and minimizes the importance of special teams players. Banks is listed as a receiver but will probably do little of that with his value being as a kick and punt returner.<\/p>\n<p>Other cuts include former UNC offensive lineman Mike Ingersoll (Kansas City), third-year pro out of UNC Brandon Tate (New England) and rookie lineman Kyle Jolly (Steelers).<\/p>\n<p>Each of the players who were cut still have an opportunity to either be picked up by another team or making the eight-player practice squad.
