Over the past 50 years, Carolina Athletics has built a tradition of women’s sports excellence. Since seven Tar Heel women’s teams went varsity as part of the Department of Physical Education in 1971-72 (they moved to the Department of Athletics three years later), the now-15-team women’s program has earned 39 team national championships and recorded 40 individual national champions, 50 national players of the year and 133 conference championships. …read more
