  1. The policy states that banners for other teams can’t be “affixed to or displayed on any surface” but that hand signs are allowed. According to the man who had the sign, he and his friends were holding it when Newton snatched it from them. Also, he says the sign was pre-approved by stadium officials. We’ll have to see if what he says is true but if it is, he is allowed to have the banner. The policy states, “No banners or flags expressing support of visiting teams may be affixed to or displayed on any surface. Hand held signs or posters that are in compliance with the balance of this policy are acceptable.”

  2. Of course we evidently don’t know if it was affixed when Newton tore it down but the man said it wasn’t. Regardless Newton would have been smart to ignore it. Coach Rivera says he shouldn’t have done it and that Newton’s been talked to about it. Here’s a quote from the man who had the sign: “I followed all the rules. I got pre-approval to have that banner and look what it got me. We were shocked. When Cam ran up, we thought he was going to talk to us, or even sign our banner. But instead he ripped it out of our hands and almost took my son-in-law’s finger with it.”
