College athletes are getting paid and fans are starting to see a growing share of the bill

Beer, wine to be sold at Dean Smith Center

Dean Smith would not be happy. He long opposed alcohol sales and commercials aimed at college sports. The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill announced Thursday that beer and wine will be sold at the school’s two basketball venues this season. Sales at the Smith Center will start with the men’s season opener against Elon on Nov. 4, while sales at Carmichael Arena, where the women play their home games, will begin later in the month.
